The “Day of the Seafarer,” declared by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to consistently remind the global public of seafarers’ contribution to the economy, has been celebrated annually on June 25th since 2010, with a different theme each year. Today, we salute the unseen heroes of the seas: World Seafarers Day. More than 90% of global trade takes place by sea, and it is seafarers who carry this burden – on duty for months, away from their loved ones and homes, amidst the waves.
Happy World Seafarers Day to all my colleagues who are on watch on the bridge or in the engine room, in the shipyard, at sea, drifting, at anchor, during strait and canal transits, at the fore and aft stations during maneuvers, and those meeting/seeing off pilots, and our pilot captains. May God grant them safe passage.
I sincerely congratulate all our seafarers who spend their lives on the blue waters, blend their sweat with the waves to add value to our country; and who tirelessly continue their duties despite storms, loneliness, and harsh conditions.
May your bow be clear,
